Sustainability

For us, sustainability means concrete actions and continuous development

Our goal is to communicate our sustainability efforts transparently and provide our customers with guidance and solutions for responsible travel and environmental consideration in our marina. We recognize the environmental challenges posed by boating and strive to offer solutions and ways to act eco-friendly and responsibly.

We are currently undergoing the Sustainable Travel Finland certification process by Visit Finland.

HSF Marine is a Roope Marina

Roope Marina (Roope-satama) is a Finnish environmental certificate awarded to marinas that meet specific criteria. The certificate is managed by Keep the Archipelago Tidy Association (PSSry), which works to improve the state of the marine environment, promote environmental responsibility, and spread environmental awareness.

The Pillars of Sustainability at HSF Marine:

Supporting the Local Community

We are actively involved in the local community, for example, through our owner Hangö Segelförening rf. we prioritize local subcontractors and suppliers whenever possible. We also favor eco-friendly and responsible partners. We are active members of the Hanko Entrepreneurs Association (Hangon Yrittäjät).

We aim to employ as many local people as possible. Every year, we organize the “Vilskettä Vesille” day for all 5th graders in Hanko, where they learn essential skills for living by the sea, such as first aid, water rescue, environmental awareness, navigation, and initial firefighting.

Environment

We take the environment into account in our operations. We communicate with our customers about water usage and recycling/sorting options (including glass, metal, cardboard, bio-waste, and plastic packaging). We heat our facilities with heat pumps, and our lighting is sensor-controlled. Sauna hours are also optimized to ensure heaters are not running for empty saunas. We collect litter from both the land and water areas of the marina. We use recycled materials where possible, such as in information signs, and favor eco-labeled products in all material procurement.

Employees and Well-being

During the summer season, we typically employ about six young summer workers. We want our employees to find their workplace pleasant and safe. In shift planning, we ensure sufficient time off and take employee requests into account. We provide summer staff with necessary training, such as first aid courses, which remain useful long after the summer job

ends. At the end of the season, we conduct a survey to collect feedback. Our goal is to ensure our summer staff want to return to work with us the following year.
